DSR Enews: July 2017
  A word from the DSR...
Lake fishing has been on fire this summer, leading us to believe we should have a great salmon run this fall! Speaking of Lake Ontario, water levels remain over 2 ft. above average and flooding continues to be an issue in the lower end of the run. Good news is around the corner, the Army Corp of Engineers predicts lake levels to drop 8 in. by the end of August! For more information on lake levels, click below. The CNY area has received 50% more precipitation than average for this point in the year - that's over 10 inches of extra rain!

  DSR Happenings
Stream restoration: DSR is disappointed to share that stream restoration plans in the lower end of the Run have been tabled until 2018. High water levels in Lake Ontario have created unfavorable conditions for DSR's planned stream modifications. DSR managers and restoration specialists have agreed the best option is to postpone restoration work until summer 2018. The planned restoration would take place in the 'S-curve' area which is currently flooded, and would include bank stabilization using locally sourced (from DSR property) tree stumps and root wads, the creation of low-head dams to aid in river channelization, and dredging of holes that have filled in over time.
Lodge Renovations: The summer may be the quiet time of year on the Salmon River, but at the DSR we've been busy making updates and repairs to the lodges. Here are just a few of the improvements you'll encounter this year;
Douglaston Manor Lodge: New bathtub and surround, roof repairs.
Mud Creek Lodge: New couch in living room
Salmon Run Lodge: New roof, removal of pine tree next to porch, painted deck.
Meadow Lodge: new floor in mudroom
Deer Run Lodge: new cement step outside mudroom door
Estuary Lodge: new mattresses
River Lodge: Freshly painted bedroom, foyer and stairwell and a new Dishwasher!
