Season pass holders, paying guests and a guide and client ventured on the run this week. They dealt with a couple days of rain and when it wasn’t raining, it was overcast, blue skies on the 30th. Several bass were caught mostly small ones. The average temp was 72F and the water temps ranged from 66F to 63F.

Fishing Report July 24-26, 2021
7/26/2021

A quiet weekend on the run, with a few season passholders joining us for an outing early Saturday morning. Weather this weekend was a bit all over the place, with a bit more rain, making things quite humid throughout the weekend.  Today, the same group of passholders joined us, for their morning ritual.  One angler faired a bit better than the other, but reported a quiet outing, catching a few bass up to 19".  Hard to believe we are approaching the end of July!  When do you think we will see our first king this year?!

Fishing Report July 19 - 23, 2021
7/23/2021

Angling pressure has been quite light this week and has been for some time. In large part, this has been due to how wet the month of July has been. The water release finally began to recede from the heavy rains earlier this week and a few guests did join us to see if the high water had moved any fish around. The few guests we've had did catch a few small mouth bass but the flow remains much higher than normal for this time of year and as a result the angling remains challenging. Flows will remain up for the weekend due to the scheduled whitewater release and are planned to return to the summer base flow of 185cfs by 7/27. Water temperatures remain in the high 60's to low 70's.

Fishing Report June 29 - Jul 2 , 2021
7/2/2021

A fairly quiet end to the week here on the run.  But a couple of our our veteran anglers took advantage of the cooler mornings, and were here bright and early to see what the activity might be like.  From their reports, things have quieted down, smaller bass still remain, but the larger bass have returned to the lake.  Water temperatures have obviously increased with heat wave sitting at about 75 F most of the week at the height of the day, early this morning we recorded a temperature 68 F. Considering these conditions, there was little to no angling pressure during the daytime.  Things have cooled down quiet a bit with some rain in the mix, but to say it's been humid, is definitely an understatement.

Reminder: DSR will be closed this Sunday - July 4th

Fishing Report June 26-29, 2021

Summer is definitely in full force, with the first real heatwave here, bringing temperatures close to 90 F the past few days.  Since the time of the last report, water temperatures have increased to about 75 F, not too surprising, given the low water.  The anglers that joined us today indicated the activity to be fairly quiet, and rightfully so in this heat.  Thankfully forecasts indicate we should expecting some much needed rain for the reminder of the week, settling back into the low to mid 70's.   It's certainly hard to believe that it's almost July, and in a little over a month, we might just see our first salmon!

Light crowds continued this week but those guests who did join us enjoyed some very solid smallmouth action. Today's (6/25) slight bump in water flow and overcast conditions seemed to have the smallmouth on the bite. We are seeing more juvenile bass but a few large bass still remain. 4 or 5 bass caught today went 18"+. Water temperatures also receded some with our mid-week cold front, ranging from 60-64 at 8am the past 3 mornings. Hopefully the increase of flow to 400cfs tonight keeps the fish happy this weekend!

Fishing Report June 19-22, 2021
6/22/2021

A light crowd this weekend, with a duo of anglers finding some prospects in the early morning, but the small mouth action quieted down toward mid day. Another group joined us in the evening, taking their turn on the water, with not so much luck. Yesterday, the run was untouched, but a veteran passholder took advantage of this low fishing pressure opportunity and spent the day wetting a line for the greater part of the day.  Can't beat a day on the run, fishing by yourself.  And, certainly not when the bass fishing still remains pretty fantastic.  All though the larger small mouth have moved out, there's still plenty of bass to go around!  Forecasts are back into the 80's for the remainder of the week here, with water temperatures abruptly increasing since our last report, now at approximately 70 F. Up from 59 F late last week.  With just a few bright days, and low water, it sure didn't take long to warm the bath.

Fishing Report June 15-18, 2021
6/18/2021

Couldn't have asked for much better weather this week.  Temperatures have remained in the low 70's for most of the week, with a fair amount of overcast in the mix. Water temperatures have dipped a bit, since earlier in the week, dropping from 64 F on Tuesday, to a low of 59 F yesterday morning.  A number of anglers took advantage of the cooler weather this week, indicating the PILES of bass may not necessarily have been there, but there are certainly plenty of bass, despite all of the larger bass vacating their spawning beds.  Several anglers reported getting into a handful of larger 3+ bass, but beginning to catch predominantly smaller bass, including rock bass, along with fall fish, carp, and a few small trout.  Forecasted weather for this weekend initially expected a bit of rain, and unpleasant weather, but updated forecasts report otherwise.  Regardless of the outcome, it's time to get out, rain or shine, forget the weather report, and enjoy some fishing!

Fishing Report June 12-14, 2021
6/15/2021

A fairly quiet weekend for the run, but a couple of veteran anglers took advantage of the low pressure weekend, yesterday, and were able to find some seemingly endless piles of small mouth bass.   Coming off the water by high sun, both anglers indicated landing quantities well into the double digits. One angler using spinning gear, the other swinging flies, but both with a nearly equal outcome, (despite their skill level) this was certainly a testament to the quality of the fishing yesterday.  This influx of bass most likely attributed to the conclusion of their spawning in the river, now migrating back into the lake.  Water temperatures have stabilized, holding in the 63-64 F range throughout the course of the day.  The baseline flow of 185 CFS continues, with a current reported flow of 248 CFS at the Pineville gauge.  Scheduled upcoming White Release may be found below, or by visiting safewaters.com/facility/42.
