DSR Enews: Oct/Nov 2017
  A word from the DSR...
We rounded out the 2017 salmon season with great action throughout DSR. Plentiful numbers of large, feisty Chinook and Coho kept anglers busy, and we also saw a number of beefy browns and an Atlantic or two. Mid and late October saw large numbers of dime bright Steelhead before high water stymied our angling efforts. Overall, this fall provided plenty of action, and we have every reason to believe the rest of Steelhead season will be just as successful. We hope you can join us soon!

High Water: Late October and early November saw plenty of rain, causing high water flows which forced DSR to close for fishing for several days. Flows reached a maximum of 3,750cfs output from the dam at the Salmon River Reservoir. DSR is again open for fishing, and we monitor water flows closely. We will be sure to post via Facebook and our DSR website Fishing Report of any changes to flows.

Given the high water and cooling temperatures, we want to remind everyone that after November 1st, DSR enforces a policy of wearing studded footwear at all times on the run (cleats or Korkers are okay).

Employee Appreciation Dinner: On Thursday, Oct 26th, DSR owners, managers, and staff came together to celebrate a fantastic salmon season and the accomplishments made by all. We all enjoyed a delicious dinner, great conversation, and a cozy campfire on the shores of the river. Together, the DSR River Patrol, Housekeeping, Maintenance, and Guest Services teams keep the things running smoothly and are quick to respond when issues arose. We'd like to take a moment to praise our staff for their hard work in delivering a consistently memorable fishing experience to all our guests.

SUNY Cobleskill visits DSR
DSR hosted a group of fisheries and aquaculture students from SUNY Cobleskill on Oct 21st, on their fall field trip to the Salmon River. Their focus was to experience large scale fisheries and develop a broader understanding of the management challenges from both a public and private perspective. In the morning the students spent time on the upper SR before heading our direction. Around noon DSR Manager Garrett Brancy sat down with the students to explain the design of the DSR Angler experience followed by a Q&A period. The students then headed to the water for the afternoon to live it for themselves! We were delighted to learn that the students also represented their own on campus chapter of trout unlimited! -Five Rivers, an extension of the Clear Water chapter. What a great group that represents so much promise for the future of our fisheries, thanks for joining us, gang!!
